Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground...T. Roosevelt

Week #1... (Kick-Off)

February 14, 2008: (Valentine's Day Kick-Off...)

The convivial atmosphere was enjoyed by all last night at the first ever Roosevelt Moustache-a-thon!  Jacob Baker (aka Sir Mustachio) was given special recognition for raising the most money to date.  In a surprise move 7 Roosevelt boys and girls signed up in an effort to support the cause.  Be sure to watch the progress of these inspirational farmers.  It should be interesting!  In total there are 27 individual farmers and one team.  The team includes a Roosevelt family whose 3 children attend the school.  So that is a total of 10 students participating!  Not to be outdone by the students there were 3 staff that signed up as individual farmers.  Be sure to cheer them on when you see them in the halls at school.

Please join us next week for more fun, great conversation and fabulous door prizes.  Even if you did not sign up as official farmer you can still come on down, eat some good food at Plenty and cheer on these hard working fundraisers.

Our sponsors who include, Plenty, Olympia Film Society and Archibald Sisters are greatly appreciated and make this event possible.

Week #2...

February 21, 2008:

The second week of the Moustache-a-Thon was another happy gathering! As you can see from the pictures below, there was some amazing progress made by the children while the adults in the contest are slowly regaining their stride and their facial hairs.

Laurence Reeves was given special recognitions for his fundraising efforts this week. Way to go Laurence of Olympia! Fantastic door prizes were once again handed out to Moustache-a-Thon participants. Sam Baker (aka Homer von No Stache) and Brian (B.) Miller were the lucky winners this week.

The highlight of the evening was the total eclipse of the moon that we all enjoyed together on the sidewalk outside of Plenty. At one point, the children were on the sidewalk cheering for the moon!

So far this "little fundraiser that could" has raised over $450! Thank you to all of those who have supported our school and our farmers.

Week #3...

• February 28, 2008:

It was a great gathering last night at our third Stash Bash. Many of the kids were down with colds and it seems other moustache farmers are on the verge of overtaking them. Noticed was a very real fu manchu making it's progress south and some viable cookie dusters up and running. Skippaah (Keith) brought in the most money this week and regaled us with his enterprise of emailing everybody he knew.

As facial follicles go from being more than 5 o'clock shadows, co-workers and friends are beginning to notice that real commitment and fundraising is happening! Over $900 has been raised and if you're new to the site - you've got some choices to make:

1) If you know a farmer - donate to him or her and help them come that much closer to the coveted "Most Money Raised by Whiskers Award."

2) If you're feeling particularly happy donate to all the farmers, or

3) Really get the farmers mad and donate to Puss N' Boots or Chef Skinner!

Thanks to our fearless farmers, wonderful donors, and to Plenty, Swing, Olympia Film Society and Archibald Sisters for sponsoring the event! It's easy, just pick a farmer, click on the donate button and listen to the sound of hundreds of school children saying thank you!

Week #4...

• March 6, 2008:

Moustaches, fu manchus, soul patches and beards were everywhere at our 4th 'Stash Bash and Weigh-In. And so far, it seems that every week we have doubled our monies brought in by follicles. $450, $900 and now $2,234.17! Seventeen cents! That is so cool of someone. Skippaah is still n the lead, but he's neck and neck with many Roosevelt moustache farmers.

And I notice moustaches everywhere i go. I want to invite everyone to grow a moustache for Roosevelt. When you're having such a good time doing good, you end up wanting to spread the word that doing good feels great! So lend us your funds and maybe next year your follicles. Help a young scientist, a world-saver, a shark dentist and a child who thinks every President should have a feather wand and end all wars - get the education they deserve; and for the teachers, the supplies they need.

Ten more days … We're into the final countdown! Will we be able to double our funds again? You know the secret (and we're having the blast!) Make it happen. Just click on one of those gorgeous faces below and donate your support to a great, neighborhood school and a community that rallies around it. Thank you so much for digging deep!

Week #5... (Grand Finale)

• March 13, 2008:

Pandemonium was rampant on Wednesday! The judges - teachers and staff of Roosevelt Elementary - were exacting! Each farmer was carefully scrutinized. They begged for more categories – too many great moustaches. But, finally, they chose: Dan Holder (Dan, Dan the Handyman) for Freestyle Follicles, Daddy Kuttitov (for most like Teddy Roosevelt’s), David Thompson (Best in Show) and finally, Most Money Raised by Whiskers: Keith Edgerton. “Skippaah! Skippaah! Skippaah!” The crowd roared its approval!

And thanks continue: to Aleta Taylor, for financial management, Kathy Strauss, photography, and Richard Voss, our website miracle-worker and creator. And to our sponsors: Plenty, Olympia Film Society and Archibald Sisters and our many, many donors. Thank you!!!

School spirit? Are you kidding me? What could be better than raising money for a great neighborhood school? And to that effect, we are continuing to raise more money for Roosevelt! Why not two endings, three even? What will the number be on the big check unfurled at the auction? I don't know. But we figure just in case .... maybe you want to donate in honor of your favorite winner, or ... or... or...
